Professional Bio

Dr. Joseph A. Sassano, DO, is a graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, class of 1985. He did his post-graduate training at the Southeast College of Osteopathic Medicine in North Miami Beach and is board certified In Osteopathic Family Practice. Dr. Sassano served as a Commissioned Corp officer at the rank of First Lieutenant and worked as First Surgical Assist in both Mississippi and New Mexico for the Indian Health Service. He began his private practice in Family Medicine in Tampa, Florida in 1989 and was president of the Hillsborough County Osteopathic Medical Society, District 5.

Dr. Sassano has been married to his wife, Kelly, since 1997 and their family moved to Sarasota, Florida after the birth of their only child, Joseph, in 2004. Dr. Sassano has been the acting president of FOMA District 7, which includes Sarasota, Manatee, Harde, Highland and DeSoto counties, for 12 of the last 15 years, and has organized their annual District 7 CME seminar in November for the last 10 years. He currently serves as a state delegate for FOMA as well as a delegate to the AOA. Dr. Sassano has been a preceptor for the LECOM in Bradenton, Florida since the school opened. ​
