Professional Bio

Dr. Markou is a 1991 graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCOM). He is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. He is a past president of Pinellas County Osteopathic Medical Society. Dr. Markou is a world-renowned hair restoration surgeon and the founder of Markou Medical and Tampa Bay Hair Restoration in 1994. He has frequently appeared on television specials and radio talk shows. Dr. Markou currently participates in the training of Osteopathic medical residents and has trained many hair restoration surgeons over the past 30 years. He has been an active member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery for 30 Years, recently serving as chairman of the patient safety subcommittee and ethics committee. Dr. Markou took part in Merck Pharmaceutical Studies on the only FDA-approved oral medication for hair loss, Propecia. He was one of the first physicians worldwide to utilize Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections for hair loss and was the first physician to publish research on the effects of low-level laser devices to assist in hair regrowth. He is also very proactive in his Family medical practice with the use of platelet-rich plasma in the treatment of Orthopedic conditions in men and women. He is Past President of the Pinellas County Osteopathic Medical Society and was voted their Physician of the Year in 2010.
