Steven A. Gunderson, DO, DABA, FACA, CASC
Chief Executive Officer and Administrative Medical Director, Rockford Ambulatory Surgery Center
Dr. Gunderson is the Chief Executive Officer and Administrative Medical Director of Rockford Ambulatory Surgery Center, a freestanding, multi-specialty ASC and has been active in healthcare for over 30 years. Dr. Gunderson has an undergraduate degree from Drake University and attended medical school at Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center. He completed his internship in Cleveland, Ohio then served as a general medical officer in the Navy Medical Corps. He subsequently completed an Anesthesiology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Dr. Gunderson has been affiliated with Rockford Anesthesiologists Associated since 1984, and has served on their Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He is past Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia for the SwedishAmerican Health System. Dr. Gunderson has been an Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) Board member and is currently an accreditation surveyor. He served on the Board of Directors of the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association, the Board of Ambulatory Surgery Certification and the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists. He sits on the Illinois Department of Public Health Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center Licensing Board and is a life member of the American College of Physician Executives. Dr. Gunderson is also a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiologists, a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management, and a Fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologists. He holds an academic position as Clinical Assistant Professor and is a member of the Executive Committee at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Gunderson retired from active practice in 2021
