Professional Bio
Tomas Villanueva, DO is highly regarded in the field of internal medicine for his impressive list of achievements and groundbreaking contributions. As a board-certified internist, Tomas’ expertise spans hospital medicine, palliative care and hospice care as well as primary care. He spearheads Vizient consulting projects in Capacity/Flow, Hospital Medicine Optimization, Utilization Management including Physician advisory, Ambulatory Services and Mortality Improvement, and serves as clinical and executive lead for various quality improvement efforts. His expertise extensive into the ambulatory, acute and subacute arena.
Tomas' leadership is clear from his role in initiating three new programs in South Florida and his national involvement with the Society of Hospital Medicine where he was honored as part of the first group of Senior Fellows. His strategic foresight led to the establishment of the first Palliative Care program and Hospice GIP at Baptist Health South Florida, setting a benchmark in patient care.
Beyond his clinical and administrative leadership, Tomas is the host of the Vizient Hermes Platinum award-winning Modern Practice Podcast, where he shares cutting-edge insights and fosters dialogue on vital healthcare issues. His commitment to medical education is reflected in his role as clinical assistant professor at Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine and Florida International University, College of Medicine, shaping the minds of future healthcare leaders.
With over two decades of physician leadership experience Tomas is also a Fellow of the American Association for Physician Leadership and still practices in general internal medicine.
